The HBO drama stars Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon and Shailene Woodley as a group of mothers living a life of luxury in Monterey California.
However season one showed that all was not as it seemed and the women gradually realised they were interconnected through Celeste Wright’s (Nicole) abusive husband Perry (Alexander Skarsgard).
Now in a sudden treat to fans of the HBO and Sky Atlantic programme actress Nicole has posted an image of her and Meryl with Celeste’s two children sitting together on a bedroom floor.
The photograph is presumably taken from the first episode of the new season, which the star revealed began filming today.
“First day on the set with Meryl and “my” darling boys! #BigLittleLies,” Nicole wrote alongside the Instagram picture.
Delighted to have a glimpse at the new season, fans flooded the Australian actress’s comments.
One person wrote: “Could this show be any better and greater and awesome!!! Geez!!!”
“I NEED IT NOW,” another posted, followed by: “THIS IS TOOOOOO MUCH FOR MY LITTLE HEART.”
While a fourth declared: “I smell SAG, Golden Globe, and Emmy Awards!!”
Others couldn’t hold back their excitenebt as one person exclaimed: “YEEEEEEES! I just love #biglittlelies so much! And I’m so happy that Meryl is on season 2! I hope the first day was perfect @nicolekidman!! Season 2, I’m SO ready for you!”
When it was first announced that Oscar-winner Meryl would be taking the role of troubled Perry’s mother on the show, it seemed a given that she and Celeste would be at odds.
Releasing a tease for the new storyline, HBO said that Mary Louise would arrive in the sun-soaked town “concerned for the well-being of her grandchildren”.
She will also be determined to find out the truth about her son’s death as she searches for “answers”.
Viewers will remember that the women banded together to protect each other after the horrific events of the finale episode took place, as it seemed they were set to keep Bonnie’s (Zoe Kravitz) secret.
Meanwhile, another actor who expressed their interest in the hugely popular series, which was based off Liane Moriarty’s gripping book, is Robert De Niro.
According to a recent interview, the star admitted that he would be keen to take on the part of Perry’s father and Mary Louise’s husband in the show.
Given the image Nicole posted shows only Meryl in the family home it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to suggest that he’s signed on.
“Yeah, sure I would,” the actor said. “Television is not the way it was when I was a young actor.
“It’s totally different. They’re doing very good work in television.”
Big Little Lies season two is expected to air on HBO and Sky Atlantic later this year.
