Behold Posters of the Gods (and a Couple of Humans) of ‘American Gods’ Being Godly (and Ungodly!)

Bryan Fuller’s American Gods will be released next month — and various trailers, as well as images of Gillian Anderson as a chameleonic God of television named Media who’s sometimes Lucy Ricardo and sometimes David Bowie, Marilyn Monroe, etc. etc. — have been building anticipation for what looks to be a completely wild experience. (And, you know, hopefully a good experience, too.)  Today, a series of character posters were released, capturing the essences of the show’s panoply of very odd Gods.

Here’s the series’ protagonist, Shadow Moon, played by Ricky Whittle:

And here’s Emily Browning as Laura Moon, his wife, whose death is the catalyst for events of the series (and the caption on the poster indicates a bit of self-awareness about that being something of a tired trope):

Here’s Orlando Jones as Mr. Nancy, aka the Ashanti folkloric figure Anansi, one of the Old gods in the series:

Why, yes, this is Orange is the New Black‘s Pablo Schreiber as a frighteningly ripped/enthusiastic leprechaun:

And here’s the omnipresent Peter Stormare as Czernobog, God of Evil:

Here’s Yetide Badaki as Bilquis, Goddess of Love, who, as described in Vanity Fair, “craves worship and features in the original novel’s most eye-popping sequence”:

Here’s Kristin Chenoweth as the German mythology-derived Easter, the frighteningly floral Goddess of Spring:

Here’s Bruce Langley as Technical Boy, “a powerful god who feeds off your devotion to the Internet” who Entertainment Weekly says might be the most altered from the 2001 novel on which the series is based:

This is Crispin Glover as Mr. World, the New Gods’ leader:

And last but not least, here’s Ian McShane as Mr. Wednesday, the first God Shadow Moon meets (who also happens to be leader of the Old Gods):

American Gods premieres on Starz on April 30.
