BBC weather: Matt Taylor warns of MORE thunderstorms and torrential downpours

Beginning this morning’s forecast, Matt told viewers over 100,000 lightning strikes have been recorded over night across the English Channel, southern England and Wales.

And it seems the thunderstorms aren’t going anywhere yet as they will develop further north today.

The meteorologist – who is currently replacing usual BBC Breakfast weather presenter Carol Kirkwood – said the northern Midlands, Yorkshire and northern England will see thunderstorms this morning whereas it will be a drier day for southern counties.

Northern Ireland will see heavy bursts of rain this morning which will also been seen in parts of northern Wales.

Temperatures this afternoon will reach 30 or 31 degrees celsius across some parts of eastern England which will combine to set off some further storms.

The weather won’t be as severe in the south west of England today but there will still be some cloud.

Northern Wales, Midlands and north west England will finish off the day with torrential downpours  and Northern Ireland may have some thunderstorms.

There will be some showers in Scotland but it will be driest and brighter across the north west Highlands with temperatures in the high 20s.

Overnight, storms will fade but it will feel very humid with fresher conditions tomorrow.

BBC Breakfast continues weekdays at 6:00am on BBC One.
