BBC Weather: Matt Taylor warns of destructive winds as Storm Eleanor batters the UK

Over the last few hours, the meteorologist revealed Storm Eleanor has left a “trail of damage” after winds of up to 100mph battered the UK.

There will also be high seas in the western half of the UK today along with the risk of minor coastal flooding.

However, there was some good news as Matt – who is stepping in for Carol Kirkwood – revealed Storm Eleanor is pushing off so the strong winds will ease.

Through the course of the day, there will be showers in western Scotland and northern Ireland but for the rest of the UK there will be dry spells.

Tonight, the showers will remain in some parts of Scotland and in southern western England.

It will be a chilly start to the north and east of the UK tomorrow with the south having to endure the strongest winds.

It will brighten up tomorrow with temperatures hovering around 12 to 13 degrees celsius in the northern half of the UK.

Although temperatures appear to be on the rise, Matt did warn colder air will return this weekend.

BBC Breakfast continues tomorrow at 6am on BBC One.
