BBC weather: Matt Taylor warns of cold frost as temperatures set to plummet

The meteorologist stepped in for Carol Kirkwood this morning and revealed it will be a very mild day for many.

Despite the warmer than average climate, commuters in Scotland, north east England and north west Wales will be hit by showers to start the day.

The south east of England will see the odd patch of drizzle whereas Northern Ireland will enjoy a dry morning.

During the day, Matt said the rain will make a move across Wales, the midlands and the south of England.

Temperatures will hover around 13, 14 degrees celsius in the south east compared to five degrees celsius far north of Scotland.

However, there is very cold air to come with temperatures plummeting to just above freezing tonght.

And Friday morning will see the return of the chilly conditions as Matt said: “It’s going to be back to scraping the frost of the car tomorrow morning. Lovely crisp start though for many.“

Scotland will see some showers tomorrow whereas most England, Wales and Northern Ireland will stay dry but it will be chilly.

Cold air will continue in the north of the UK on Saturday, whereas the south east will see temperatures in double figures.

BBC Breakfast continues weekdays at 6am on BBC One.
