Steph McGovern and Charlie Stayt presented BBC Breakfast earlier today and the main topic at hand was the country’s teenagers receiving their A-level results.
As most nervously wait to find out whether they will be going to university or not, the Teesside-born journalist looked at ways those who didn’t quite get the results they needed.
Those who need further advice are urged to visit UCAS where they can also see places available through clearing and the like.
But it seems Steph got her acronyms mixed up as she delivered the crucial information.
UCAS – the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service – was accidentally confused by ACAS – the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service – by Steph.
And viewers didn’t let the blunder slip, as they flocked to Twitter to comment on Steph’s gaffe.
One shared: “Uni clearing system is UCAS, not ACAS, Steph – unless they want conciliation & arbitration.”
A second added: “#bbcbreakfast did Steph just call UCAS ACAS?! #UCCA #ACAS.”
It was only a one-off however, as Steph made sure she got it right the next following times.
The blunder perhaps comes from Steph’s business journalism background.
Earlier in the week, Sally Nugent walked off BBC Breakfast earlier in the week.
The sports presenter shared some jokes with Dan Walker and Louise Minchin, about the team’s new mugs.
Louise noticed Sally didn’t have one, laughing about her white cup with “BBC Breakfast” written crudely on it.
Dan defended his sports colleague, telling her the effort was “beautiful”.
Louise admitted her officially-branded mug wasn’t for keeping, adding: “Can we just be clear, this [mug] is only on loan to me, it’s shared.”
But things turned a little sour after Sally wrapped up her sports report and said: “I’m going to take my mug and go.”
Dan added: “Take your cheap mug and get off.”
Acting unimpressed, Sally stood up after saying, “Okay,” and walked off set.
Acting shocked, Louise jumped in: “Oh she’s gone, she’s gone!”
BBC Breakfast airs weekdays on BBC on 6am.
