BBC News: Charlie Stayt ignores guest after awkward underwear probe

On today’s , presenters Charlie and Tina Daheley, were joined by broadcaster Tessa Dunlop as they went through the morning papers.

Both Charlie and those tuning in at home were left shocked when the topic of the conversation turned to his underwear.

Speaking about the impact online shopping has had on high street stores, Charlie said: “You could choose not to shop at Amazon for example but we don’t.”

“Where do you get your knickers from Charlie?” Tessa shot back.

Charlie ignored the question as he stared blankly at Tessa while Tina could be seen looking awkwardly off-screen.

Tessa appeared to be regretting her question as she flicked through the remaining papers.

Eventually, Charlie broke the awkward silence asking: “Any other stories in the paper today?”

“Anyway…” Tessa began before giggling: “I was going to say, actually I won’t say where I get mine…”

Fortunately for Charlie the topic of conversation was quickly changed.

But, the moment was not lost on BBC Breakfast viewers who rushed to Twitter to comment on the exchange.

“Crikey, Charlie Stayt didn’t find the knickers comment funny did he? #bbcbreakfast,” one viewer wrote.

Another added: “@bbcbreakfast trying not to wonder where Charlie buys his knickers.”

A third continued: “That was one hell of an awkward moment on BBC Breakfast.”

The moment came after Charlie was left unimpressed by co-host Naga Munchetty’s chat up line on yesterday’s show.

The 43-year-old was mimicking Joey Tribbiani’s infamous catchphrase “How you doing’?” on the show.

Unfortunately, Charlie wasn’t too pleased with her attempt, asking: “Was that your best effort?”

Naga was undeterred by Charlie’s criticism and later tried the phrase again.

The 56-year-old commented: “It’s getting better. Gradually getting better.”

“It was great to begin with,” Naga snapped back.

BBC Breakfast airs mornings on BBC One at 6am.
