Many at home begged the presenter to let the mayor of Greater Manchester speak, as he appeared to discuss the terrorist attack in the city four months ago.
Twitter was flooded with comments about the “rude” 42-year-old, who was presenting alongside Steph McGovern.
Naga had started: “Why is there a delay in people responding now? Who haven’t got in touch with what they saw?” as Andy, 47, spoke about Lord Kerslake’s review into what happened at the Manchester Arena.
The politician replied: “People recover in different ways, don’t they? The time will be right early for some and later for others. It’s why we took our time to set up this independent review… We do want to hear from you, good or bad.”
However, Naga went on to question why paramedics in urgent need of back up were reportedly delayed from going in on the night, before “expressing their frustration”.
“This is why I said I’d set up an independent review,” Andy said. “This was in the days after the attack and we were getting these concerns.”
Interrupting, Naga asked when the report was due, before suggesting it wouldn’t be for at least six to eight months, blasting: “But they need to be empowered, don’t they?”
Two users posted online: “Let the bloke speak ffs #bbcbreakfast,”(sic) and: “Why is Naga being so bl**dy aggressive to the Manchester mayor? #bbcbreakfast.”
A third person quickly agreed: “Has Naga been taking interview advice from Paxman? So aggressive interviewing Andy Burnham #bbcbreakfast.”
A fourth comment read: “Wtf Naga let Andy Burnham speak. You are one rude, aggressive woman! #bbcbreakfast,”(sic) as someone else added: “Naga Munchetty is a bit grumpy this morning – should have been much more sensitive towards Andy Burnham #bbcbreakfast.”
But some tweeted the show to praise the hosting line-up: “@BBCBreakfast Loving the @BBCNaga and @stephbreakfast team in the lead chairs this morning on #BBCBreakfast! Hope to see more of this! #ChangeTheRatio.”
BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am on BBC One.
