BBC Breakfast host Dan Walker was the one who took charge of the interview with Matt Hancock this morning as he probed the Health Secretary over the Government’s latest response to the coronavirus pandemic. On the agenda for Walker were topics such as local lockdowns, the progression of track and trace and fines for those flouting lockdown. However, despite cutting Mr Hancock off during a debate about Leicester’s lockdown, BBC viewers felt Walker could’ve grilled the MP further.
There were a number of talking points to take away from Mr Hancock’s interview on BBC Breakfast this morning.
Arguably one the biggest, however, came when Walker probed the Health Secretary about the test and system and its efficiency.
Mr Hancock told BBC Breakfast: “Yes, the test and trace system is working very effectively,
“We set a goal that by the start of september, we should be able to reach 80 percent of the contacted positive cases, last week that figure was 79.7”

Other issues to catch the eye of viewers was Mr Hancock’s optimism surrounding Leicester’s response to the local lockdown – despite the fact places like Oldham may be entering similar scenarios of their own.
Mr Hancock also detailed to Walker his plans for “strengthening fines and enforcement available” against those flouting lockdown.
The MP revealed there were plans to “double” the toughness of the current fines.
Mr Hancock signed off the interview by defending the appointment of Dido Harding as “the best person who could be doing her job now”.
A third weighed in: “Dan I really like your work and I know you want to keep the govt coming on to @BBCBreakfast,
“But sometimes you have to be tougher. Today @MattHancock got away with murder – simple deflection and mispresentation of facts. It’s dispiriting to watch.”
While a fourth brutally added: “@BBCBreakfast Dan Walker demonstrates in his interview with Matt Hancock that he is a sports reporter, nothing else.”
With a fifth tweeting: “Where @BBCBreakfast fall down is they don’t go in for the kill. Dan should maybe have asked “Why is she absolutely the best person, given her long record of failure in previous jobs? Perhaps he should’ve also listed them.”
