The actress was visibly upset after a small segment of Bridge over Troubled Water – organised by Simon Cowell – was played on the ITV show.
The track, which features her musician spouse, was released this morning with vocals from the likes of Rita Ora, Liam Payne, The Who’s Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend.
On returning from a VT including stills of those involved, host Ruth Langsford commented: “Absolutely beautiful… oh, look it’s made you cry.”
As the camera turned to the 38-year-old, she was barely able to speak, before her co-star revealed she knew someone affected by the tragedy, which so far has a death toll of 79.
“It’s very upsetting,” Ayda muttered, before Ruth, 57, continued: “I know that you know somebody that lived there and they has been very ill.
“It’s awful, but how amazing that all these artists – we said at the time, we all felt so helpless. What can you do?”
Janet Street-Porter continued: “I had a flat around the corner for a while and I know that area really well, of course I grew up in west London, the minute I saw it on the news it really effected me. It still does.”
During the instalment, Katie Price also performed her new single, I Got U, live, receiving a mixed response on Twitter.
While some at home admired her confidence others were less than impressed with the song and her vocal capabilities.
Loose Women airs weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV.
