Larson did not appear in person in the record-breaking blockbuster, but her character was alluded to in the final frames of the movie.
Samuel L Jackson’s Nick Fury is seen turning to dust while he’s making an urgent call on a pager – which, once he’s fully disappeared, displays the Captain Marvel symbol.
Comedian and actress Leslie Jones was livetweeting her first viewing of the film yesterday when she got excited about the credits scene.
She posted a video in which she comments: “No! No, not m***********g Fury! Not m***********g Fury! This is some b******t!”
She captioned the post: “NOOOOOOO! Who was he calling?!”
Enter Larson, who replied: “New # who dis?”
Jones responded: “I LOVE YOU!! Why you didn’t tell me you was gonna be marvel that’s so dope!!”
It’s one of the first times Larson has directly addressed the end credits scene of Infinity War, and the tweet has had tens of thousands of Favourites at time of writing.
Chris Evans also joined in with Jones’s fun. When she posted “Dayum!!” about his character Captain America, he tweeted: “What’s truly shocking is that this is EXACTLY what @Paul_Bettany says to me every time I enter a room. Verbatim.”
Avengers: Infinity War will be followed by Avengers 4, out next year.
It will be preceded by Captain Marvel, set in the 1990s, which will put Larson’s Carol Danvers centre-screen for the first time.
Yesterday a new fan theory suggested that Danvers will be sent-for in the battle to defeat Thanos, after hiding somewhere away from Earth in a bid to stop her almighty powers harming anyone unnecessarily.
Captain Marvel will be the main face of the MCU, replacing Captain America and Iron Man, once Phase Three comes to an end.
Avengers 4 is out on April 26, 2019.
