The Mad Titan didn’t get hold of the Mind Stone until the very end of Marvel‘s Infinity War, but now – after the Snap – he has it at his disposal.
So now that he has Carol Danvers, aka the exceptionally powerful Captain Marvel to contend with, could it be his secret weapon?
Reddit user NiallRiver519 argued that it could very well be the case – in a fan theory that has been upvoted by 83% of readers.
“The more footage that is revealed in the trailers, the more I’ve begun to think that Captain Marvel’s introduction will take place near the beginning of the film,” they wrote.
“In the footage shown at CinemaCon, it seems like almost immediately after she arrives at Avengers HQ, the team will depart for Titan 2 to face off with Thanos again. The difference this time is Captain Marvel is with them.
“They will encounter Thanos, and just as he is about to succumb to Captain Marvel, he uses the Mind Stone to take control of her mind the same way Loki used it in The Avengers.
“Thanos did not do this to any other heroes in Infinity War because he did not have the Mind Stone until the very end.
“And once he got it, there was no need to deploy the Stone’s power in that way. He just needed it to perform the Snap.”
The theorist went on: “I think he will realise that Captain Marvel is a legitimate threat.
“So instead of just killing her, he will turn her against the rest of the Avengers.
“The Avengers will quickly retreat back to Earth, leaving Thanos with a mind-controlled Carol on Titan 2 who will effectively be his new Black Order, singlehandedly.
“The Avengers will be forced to accept defeat. That is, until Scott Lang appears outside their HQ some years later…”
Directors Joe and Anthony Russo claimed earlier this week that none of the fan theories they have seen so far have accurately predicted what will happen in the film.
“Sometimes they’re wildly off, sometimes they’re kinda next door to what might happen,” Anthony Russo told Jake Hamilton.
“Here’s the thing, nothing’s ever that close.”
Avengers: Endgame is out on April 25.
