The Marvel supervillain was responsible for an astronomical number of deaths in Avengers: Infinity War, and presumably much of its as-yet-untitled sequel will be spent trying to bring him down.
But will the likes of Iron Man, Captain America, Thor and Black Widow be able to destroy him permanently? Perhaps not.
Speaking in promotion of his new movie Sicario: Day of the Soldado, Brolin hinted that his fate is uncertain.
“Yeah, you know what, I don’t know what the future brings and who knows,” he said, according to Flickering Myth.
“But [I] love the idea of something infinite like this. I’ve never been involved in sequels.
“The fact that we’ve done some of Avengers 2, oh sorry, Avengers 4 but Infinity War 2, I’m going back. I’m going to do more, and we’re going to do some reshoots and all that. So, I’m excited about all that.
“I love the Russos [directors]. I love working on The Avengers. I didn’t think I was going to and I actually loved it. I didn’t even like it. I loved it.
“I like playing that character. It’s a Brando-esqe, Apocalyptic Now character and it’s fun, but you know, I don’t know.”
He added: “I don’t know what the future holds. I’ve been surprised my entire career so we’ll see.”
Brolin has already had a busy year; appearing not only in Infinity War but in Deadpool 2.
Avengers 4 is still in production and will be released next spring – with writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely revealing that there’s still a long way to go before it’s ready.
They told the Fat Man on Batman podcast: “It’s disheartening to get off the one that’s all done, and get in a room and it’s just full of parts.
“You know? It’s like, ‘ah, s**t. It’s not done.’”
Avengers: Infinity War is still playing in cinemas now.
