Marvel isn’t going to stop bringing the pain any time soon.
The recent flurry of Captain Marvel pictures prompted fan excitement and raised spirits, but there is still the sense that everything is building towards even more heartache in Avengers 4.
Most of the MCU biggest hitters were left alive at the end of Infinity War, but there is a growing fear that this is only so they can make the ultimate sacrifice one movie later.
Tony Stark was there at the very start and it seems likely his exit may mark the end of this huge story arc. The news that one particular dead character will be returning in Avengers 4 points to an all-time devastating moment.
Apart from any last-minute reshoots or pick ups, Avengers 4 is in the can.
That Hashtag Show just exclusively reported that a Captain America Civil War actor filmed scenes with Robert Downey Jr.
Fathers and sons, and now daughters with Thanos and Gamora, are the recurring emotional heart of the entire Marvel Cinematic Univese.
Tony Stark and his father have rarely shared the screen, but the repercussions of both their achievements overshadow the entire franchise and Tony’s complicated feelings about Howard are at the core of who he is.
That Hashtag Show reported: “Our source has informed us that John Slattery, who played Tony’s father Howard in Iron Man 2, Ant-Man and Captain America: Civil War, was on set and filmed scenes with Robert Downey Jr.”
There are a few possibilities for what this means.
The most devastating is that Tony will time travel back and be able to have one last cathartic moment with his father. They never had the chance to say goodbye, or find any peace between them, before Winter Soldier brutally killed the Stark parents on that desolate road.
This would be even more heartbreaking if it is a form of grace and finding peace granted to Tony before he faces hs own death at the end of the movie.
The report adds that the B.A.R.F. device created by Tony to relive his memories has been spotted on the Avengers 4 set: “So it’s possible that Tony is using it to revisit some conversations he had with his father about the Tesseract.
“However, other set photos have shown some new gear on the Avengers and many have hinted at ACTUAL time travel, which makes us wonder what kind of wrongs Tony might try to right to save the world and his father.”
However, saving lives lost in the past seems almost impossible since timelines would be so radically altered. It is most likely that Tony will be able to talk to his father one last time before one or both face their final ending.
