Ant McPartlin news: Piers Morgan insists Declan Donnelly should ‘replace’ co-star

Ant was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving following a car crash on Sunday in south west London.

Following the news, Ant has asked for time off for the foreseeable future with Saturday Night Takeaway being cancelled this weekend.

Today,  said that he believes Dec should continue to present shows including I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, Britain’s Got Talent and Saturday Night Takeaway without his co-star.

Speaking on today, the star said: “I think Dec is going through a real crisis himself now what to do career wise.

“I honestly do think, the old show maxim, ‘The show must go on,’ and even though they always agreed they wouldn’t do it without each other, that’s under normal circumstances.

“I think if one of the duo is going through such problems as Ant’s going through for such a sustained period of time, and now he won’t be on TV again this year I suspect, what does Dec do?”

He continued: “You’ve got the rest of Takeaway, you’ve got Britain’s Got Talent coming up, you’ve got I’m A Celebrity, does Dec Donnelly just have to come off TV as well?”

Entertainment reporter Richard Arnold was quick to point out: “They made the pact didn’t they, it was in their autobiography years ago, that neither of them would go out there alone or without each other.”

But Piers, 52, insisted: “I think if Ant were to say publicly, the show must go on.

“They’ve got big teams of people working for them on these shows, their livelihoods are affected as well, I think that would be the right thing to do.

“I think Dec should carry on with somebody else if necessary.”

It came after on Tuesday morning’s show.

Speaking to co-host Susanna Reid about the 42-year-old, he commented: “He’s definitely changed, no question.

“Lisa [Armstrong] does my make-up on Life Stories, she’s a delightful person.

“I never would have thought that he would do that [get divorced] for example, let alone this.

“This Ant McPartlin is not the guy I know. His life is faltering and tormented for some reason.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am.
