Ambulance viewers ‘can’t cope’ during harrowing series that features real-life labour

The episode marked the premiere of the second series, and followed a group of West Midlands paramedics during a typical day on the job.

But one of the series’ difficult scenes saw a pregnant woman go into labour and, as the woman suffered through her agonising pain while naked in a bath, viewers of the show found the harrowing moment hard to watch.

After two female paramedics kept their calm and managed to help her in her most painful moments, those at home took to Twitter to express their feelings on the horrifying programme.

“Tonight wasn’t the night to watch #Ambulance on this poor woman is 40 wks pregnant & it’s not looking good. Sitting here on edge for her,”(sic) one person posted.

Some viewers praised the show for its gripping real-life stories, as one said: “Wow #Ambulance was intense but one of the most gripping programmes I think I have ever watched! Well done @BBC.”

A third agreed: “OMG watched #Ambulance on #bbc – has been most stressful hour I’ve had in ages. Huge respect to these guys who do this every day. Amazing.”

Some fans were surprised at the true reality of what the medical professionals are forced to go through on a shift, as one said: “Paramedics deserve more recognition, such inspiring people and working under extreme pressure. Makes me so proud of the NHS #bbc #ambulance.”

“#ambulance on BBC 1 has to be the most stressful programme I have ever watched… biggest respect ever for our emergency services,” another praised.

The first episode also saw two paramedics bring an elderly man back to life in a shocking moment, after his heart stopped beating for 26 minutes.

Ambulance continues next Thursday at pm on BBC One.
