Star Wars news: Guess which comedy movie franchise is making a SPOOF? 'The Farce Awakens'

We sense a disturbance in the Force and loyal fans will no doubt be hoping the upcoming film also sucks as it takes aim at their beloved characters.

The new movie has already taken its first pot shot by announcing the title will be Star Worlds Episode XXXIVE=MC2: The Force Awakens the Last Jedi Who Went Rogue.

As well as mocking the grandiose stylings of Star Wars film titles, it has also taken a timely swing at all the speculation that surrounds efforts to create a sentence out of the most recent franchise titles.

The announcement of the new spoof was made by The Hollywood Reporter which dubbed the project: “The farce Awakens.”

It will be written and directed by the established team of Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer who are bravely treading in the hallowed satirical footsteps of Mel Brooks who lampooned the Star Wars films with Spaceballs, back in 1987.

Hopes might be higher if they had managed to maintain the originality and box office success of their very first effort, Scary Movie, in 2000. Sadly, the farce has been snoozing since then.

Even Judi Dench has been getting in on the act recently, though, with

Friedberg and Seltzer’s original horror movie parody remains their most successful release to date, although the comedy duo were not involved in any of the sequels.

Instead, they went on to make Disaster Movie, the Twilight-bashing Vampires Suck and Epic Movie which, unsurprisingly, attempted to mock big-budget historical epics.

The new Star Wars spoof will be their first to directly target one specific franchise and will be financed by Covert Media.

Watch Mel Brooks show how it’s done next:

CEO Paul Hanson said: “Jason and Aaron are a powerhouse duo who have proven time and time again that they are fully tapped into what audiences love.

“Their fearless take on pop culture has us beyond thrilled to tackle the world’s most popular franchise with the two of them leading us into a galaxy far, far away.”

Whether anyone wants to follow them there remains to be seen.
