Reverend Richard Coles won legions of fans when he took part in this year’s competition with his comedic performances lighting up the dance floor.
The 55-year-old was sadly eliminated from the competition in week two after losing to Simon Rimmer in the dance off.
Today, the former star of The Communards appeared on Good Morning Britain to discuss his upcoming Christmas album launch, but cheeky hosts Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway couldn’t help but ask who he was backing.
“I’ve put a real bet on Joe [McFadden],” Richard confessed.
He explained: “From the first day I saw him I thought he was very good, but he also works very hard and he keeps getting better and better. I hope that gets rewarded.”
Richard also joked that he has not watched his performance since he quit the show after seeing the expression on his mother’s face, which told him all he needed to know.
Reflecting on his time on Strictly Come Dancing, Richard said he loved every minute of it, apart from his elimination.
“It was horrible being booted out but I can’t complain about it because I danced like a walrus with spasms,” he laughed.
This comes as doubt has been cast on whether head judge Shirley Ballas will be returning to the series.
When asked if she would come back for another stint on the talent show, she told The Sun: “Let’s wait and get this season over with. It’s been an experience. And at 57! It’s been wonderful.”
Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday on BBC One at 7.05pm.
