Final Fantasy 7 Remake release date: Square Enix gives big update on launch schedule

It has now been confirmed by Square Enix that multiple new Final Fantasy titles will be released from the publisher next year.

The question is, will the Final Fantasy 7 Remake release date be among them?

Fans have been waiting for some kind of big announcement this year, although it doesn’t appear that much is on the horizon.

There were hopes that the big PS4 games exclusive might be featured during the PlayStation Experience event, although current reports seem to suggest it will be a quieter affair.

There’s still the slim hope that something FF7 related will be revealed next month during PSX, with Square Enix confirming today that they’re set to have a busy 2018.

That’s according to Square Enix producer Shinji Hashimoto, who revealed that new Final Fantasy games are set to be launched next year.

“Next year will be the 31st year, and our teams are busy working on new titles,” Hashimoto told Edamame Arcade Channel.

“They are all gearing up for a big year next year. Next year is going to be a big year.”

Hashimoto added, “Next year will be a big one, and we will bring exciting, new Final Fantasy titles to the world.”

There are of course other FF projects in the works that could be the new games being commented on by Hashimoto.

Both Dissidia Final Fantasy NT and Final Fantasy 15 Pocket Edition have been confirmed, although fans will be hoping for bigger announcements.

The latest Square Enix earnings call also had a few interesting hints apparently attached for Final Fantasy fans.

Square Enix CEO Yosuke Matsuda told investors that the company would be making release date announcements between April 2018 and E3 2018 in June.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Kingdom Hearts 3 weren’t mentioned by name, but they are easily the company’s biggest new releases.

Matsuda also hinted at more Nintendo Switch support, claiming that it is “well suited to the mid-sized titles at which we excel”.

When asked ‘Where do you intend to prioritize allocation of your development resources going forward?’ – they answered: “We base our development resource allocations on the unique attributes of each platform.

“In particular, Nintendo Switch makes it easier for us to leverage our back catalog of assets and expertise, so we want to be proactive in creating new IP and rebooting past titles for that platform.”

Import specialist Play Asia previously listed the Final Fantasy 7 Remake release date as this December, before turning it to “to be announced”.

GameSeek, meanwhile, lists the game for June 15 next year. The longer Square Enix waits to make an announcement, the less likely this release date appears.
