Coronation Street star finally addresses THAT 'continuity' issue: 'It was deliberate'

When Michelle Connor (played by Kym Marsh) went to visit her boyfriend in prison, viewers were shocked by Robert’s change of hair colour.

The former chef sported short grey locks instead of his usual luscious brunette head of hair and speaking on BBC Breakfast today, the actor addressed the transformation.

He told hosts Louise Minchin and Dan Walker: “It’s caused much more of a fuss than I thought it would.

“But he goes to prison for six to eight weeks and when he comes out his hair is a different colour.”

Insisting that it wasn’t an error, Tristan continued: “It was a deliberate thing, it wasn’t like, oh, continuity, someone forgot. We knew what we were doing.

“[…] Maybe there’s no hair dye in prison or he got so worried about not saving his girlfriend’s life from a crazy, wacky stalker.”

The soap star went on to tease more of his upcoming storyline, which will see him struggle with his cancer diagnosis.

“He finds he doesn’t want to deal with it, there’s that denial aspect of it and he has some family history of cancer so he has a big phobia about that,” Tristan added.

Speaking about how it will affect his relationship with Michelle, he spilled: “It puts a lot of pressure on us,” but he added: “She stays with him and she’s very loyal.”
