Viewers took to Twitter in outrage claiming Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood, Bruno Tonioli and Darcey Bussell had overmarked Paul Daniels’ widow, awarding her 33 points.
The 59-year-old stepped out in a Union Jack dress as she channelled Ginger Spice, however those at home were more concerned by her score which they labelled “outrageous” and “ridiculous”.
Although, despite fans’ comments, Debbie still slipped down the table with Alexandra Burke, Gemma Atkinson, Davood Ghadami and Joe McFadden all ahead of her.
“The marking of Debbie McGee is outrageous. Why do they constantly overmark her? #strictly,” one user tweeted.
Two others continued: “I swear Debbie could stop dancing half-way through a routine and get nines #strictly,” and: “33 over scored! Ridiculous. The music was rubbish, costume and routine. Rubbish! #strictly #debbie #overmarked.”
“Sorry #Strictly, trying to keep off the bandwagon, but I’m afraid Debbie was definitely overmarked – the judges need to be fair to everyone, but this is nonsense,” a third stated.
“Oh and I agree with my colleague, so not a nine. Debbie favouritism strikes again, for two of them. #Strictly #scd,” another post stated.
“Scary Spice” Craig, 52, had told her after her routine with Giovanni Pernice: “I thought it was a little bit spiky, a little bit stiff, I would like to see the shadow rolls a little bit smoother and ironed out.
“But, I love the fact that you dropped into the splits after that and I thought the timing was absolutely exceptional.”
Darcey Bussell went on: “I have to say Debbie, I loved your shadow rolls. I thought the curve with the upper body just got better and better, very impressive and beautiful. You travelled on your promenade runs well. The only thing I’d say was it was lacking in energy by the very end which I have never seen you do in the past. Keep that energy and stamina.”
Shirley Ballas added: “You have one of the most amazing vertical lines through your body, so everything looks easy on the eye… But you have to reach really far out [for your reverse shadow rolls]… You were outstanding in that roll.”
Strictly Come Dancing 2017 continues tomorrow at 7.15pm on BBC One.
