The dancing duo have topped the leaderboard two weeks in a row after impressing the judges with their outstanding performances.
But the Italian professional has admitted he didn’t think Debbie, 59, was going to be any good when he first met her.
Appearing on The One Show together, presenter Amol Rajan asked the 27-year-old: “When you first saw Debbie did you have any idea she was actually going to be this good?”
“No,” replied Giovanni which resulted in Debbie erupt into laughter.
The dancer explained: “It’s true. When we meet all the celebrities we have a small part in the group number together and I danced a little bit with her.
“I thought that something was going there because you can feel, but when we started to do proper practising in week one I thought okay she can really do it. I got a good one.”
Despite the pair having achieved the highest score from the judges for the past two weeks, Debbie admitted she doesn’t feel the pressure.
She said: “I’m just loving every single second of every single day. I just want to enjoy every moment as long it lasts.”
The wife of the late Paul Daniels will be dancing the Tango to I Gotta Feeling by The Black Eyed Peas with partner Giovanni this weekend.
Strictly Come Dancing continues on BBC One on Saturday at 6.50pm.
