Paul Daniels’ widow was almost 40 minutes late for her slot on BBC Radio Berkshire, which she has hosted on a Sunday morning ever since 2008.
The 58-year-old admitted that she had stayed up too late as she explained to co-star David Prever why she had missed the start of the programme.
He had earlier revealed on air: “Good morning, this is BBC Radio Berkshire. It’s the Debbie McGee show with David Prever, until Debbie manages to peel off her make-up from Strictly last night.”
When Debbie later emerged, David told her that she looked “fresh”, after impressing the Strictly panel with her Charleston alongside partner Giovanni Pernice.
“I don’t know how,” Debbie replied. “I got to bed at half past three, so… I heard you say earlier as I was driving in, ‘You’d like the clocks to go back on Monday morning’. I was glad they went back last night or I don’t think I’d be here.”
David asked her if she was late due to “partying” and winding down, to which she continued: “It was little bit but we were pre-recording some stuff as well.
“We didn’t finish till quarter past 11. I had my mum and my nephew there, and a producer friend I worked with years ago, his wife was there and agent.”
Debbie added: “I was on a real high from that Charleston so I couldn’t just go home. I did stay a bit later than I should have.”
Her comments come after judge Shirley Ballas handed over her latin crown to her live on the BBC series.
Strictly Come Dancing 2017 continues tonight at 7.15pm on BBC One.
