Jumanji Karen Gillan costume controversy – Is her 'little-girl' outfit TOO overtly sexual?

There is no way around it.

It may be a movie based on good clean family fun, but Gillan’s headline-grabbing costume for the Jumanji sequel is undeniably designed to draw attention to her breasts.

The shorts are pretty tiny, too.

The Welcome To The Jungle filmmakers have revealed that there is a very specific reason for it and there will be a major pay off when the film hits cinemas and audiences finally understand why they did it.

The actress herself was forced to answer the storm of critcism and concern.

She tweeted: “Yes, I am wearing child-sized clothes and YES there is a reason. The pay-off is worth it, I promise.”

Gillan plays Ruby Roundhouse in the movie. She is the avatar of Martha, one of four children who rediscover the iconic game and are launched into a virtual reality adventure with new identities and new grown-up bodies. Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, and Kevin Hart play the other three.

Jumanji Welcome To The Jungle producer Matt Tolmach told ScreenRant the filmmakers knew what they were doing with Gillan’s costume.

He said: “We’re all very aware of that, and without giving away what I love… Yes, there’s a very real consciousness and idea there.

“When all the noise came out it was like, this is exactly what we anticipated, and is very definitely spoken to in the movie… Super aware of what we were doing there, and it’s addressed in the movie.”

The Jumanji director Jake Kasdan added: “I mean taken on its own, I guess it’s… But I knew what we were doing, and I know what the character is. I love her character. I think it’s something I’ve never seen before in a movie, it’s one of the parts of the movie I’ve been most excited about since I signed onto it.

“So, if anything, I was just sort of like ‘People are gonna go crazy when they get what we’re doing here,’ in a good way. They’re gonna love it.
