It movie: How bosses kept child stars TERRIFIED of Pennywise the Clown

The iconic horror clown has been spooking audiences worldwide en masse throughout the month, with the Andy Muschietti-directed film becoming the highest-grossing R-rated horror ever.

Speaking in the above clip, a producer said: “Andy successfully kept Bill [Skarsgard], Pennywise, away from the kids as long as possible.

“We wanted to keep him away because we wanted the reaction to be real,” added another.

An additional producer chimed in: “It is authentic to how kids should be reacting.

“That was one of Andy’s things in terms of scaring the kids – having them not know what our Pennywise was gonna look like.”

It certainly worked, with the young actors describing how unnerved they were by Skarsgard’s first scenes.

“The first time we saw him altogether was the projector scene,” Wyatt Oleff said.

“It got our real reactions,” Jeremy Ray Taylor recalled.

Finn Wolfhard, who plays Richie, added: “I was so freaked out.”

“It was terrifying,” Wyatt laughed.

It is out now.
