The 34-year-old presenter was tackling the famous mountain featured in Countryfile’s opening titles when she took a tumble.
Screaming as her hands fell away from the rocks, Helen thanked the safety team for being ready with a tight harness.
Introducing the show segment, Helen said: “This is Scout Crag, it’s a relatively easy climb by the standards of the area, but it’s not just any old Crag.
“This is the one that is being climbed in the opening titles and, well, seeing as I’m here, I have to give it a go. When in Rome and all that.”
Langdale Valley mountain guide Joe Harrop was on hand to offer encouraging words of support as Helen made her assent up the mountain to replicate the opening credits.
Joe said: “Nice and easy. Look for your holes while you’re moving.”
Helen then explained that her climb shouldn’t be too difficult, continuing: “Scout Crag is rated VD, which isn’t meant to be too challenging.”
However, things quickly took a turn thank to the wet weather causing the rocks to become slippery.
Helen gasped: “Now where am I going? I’m a bit stuck. Oh, I might be about to fall.”
Joe added: “That’s okay, you’re on a tight line. Use your balance… there we go,” before Helen fell backwards from a great height.
Screeching, Helen caught her breath and said: “Woah! Thank goodness for safety harnesses!” adding: “I was determined not to let Scout Crag get the better of me.”
Countryfile continues next Sunday on BBC One at 7pm.
