The presenter explained that he had been stuck in traffic and feared that he would not make it to the studio in time for the ITV show starting at 10.30am.
In a bid to ensure he could join Holly, he was picked up by a motorbike and shared a snap of himself whizzing through the London traffic.
As Phillip showed viewers at home the shot of him wearing his safety helmet, Holly laughed: “Aw look at you! Look at you with your little specimen head.”
Clearly not impressed with the blonde beauty’s comment, the 55-year-old barked: “Shut your face up!
“You’ve got to take it away from being cool. Your little specimen head in a helmet.”
In an attempt to diffuse the situation, Holly laughed: “The only reason I say your specimen head is when you were born, the nurse said to your mum, ‘it’s the perfect specimen head’.”
“It’s because if they hadn’t said that, they would have shrieked,” Phillip added as he too burst into hysterics.
The hilarious moment came just minutes before Holly and Phillip spoke to Wayne Rooney party girl Laura Simpson in what was a very tense interview.
The father-of-two lashed out at the 29-year-old as he demanded to know why she had agreed to appear on This Morning before questioning her over why she had agreed to get into a car with a married man.
