Victoria season 2: Tom Hughes drops Prince Albert BOMBSHELL as Lord M return CONFIRMED

The 31-year-old Cheshire-born actor, who plays Prince Albert in the hit ITV period drama, opened up about his character at a screening of episode one this week.

Speaking about his German accent in the series, Tom admitted to press including Express.co.uk: “I’ve never actually spoken to any German people about it!”

Victoria creator Daisy Goodwin, however, praised his performance, saying: “My mother-in-law, who is German, thought you were German and when I said you weren’t she didn’t believe me.”

Laughing, Tom then joked: “See I’ve been putting on a Northern accent since I was 10, I’m actually from Germany.”

The star went on to explain how he mastered the voice, saying: “I had a fantastic dialect coach. When the audition first came in and I was working with an actor who could do a German accent so I got him to read a couple of the lines and then slept with the recording one night.

“Voice is important to me,” he added. “I think characters come alive through voice. Maybe all actors work differently, but for me that is very much a gateway into them.”

He also revealed that he has never actually acted in his own voice and real-life accent, quipping: “It would feel odd to act in my own voice I think!”

The cast, Daisy and executive producer Damien Timmer also confirmed the news that fan favourite Lord Melbourne (played by Rufus Sewell) will be returning in episode two of the new series.

Damien hinted that Lord Melbourne’s appearance could cause sparks to fly between Queen Victoria (Jenna Coleman) and Prince Albert, saying that his scenes would see “quite a lot of drama”.

He also teased that “Lord M’s” return would bring “unexpected twists and turns”.

Victoria season 2 begins Sunday at 9.05pm on ITV.
