Former judge Mary told Prue that she needed to “watch out” for her co-judge Paul Hollywood.
The 82-year-old favourite has moved on to front her own cookery shows, but has offered advice to her Bake Off replacement.
Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk at a screening for the first episode, Prue said: “I’m in touch with Mary and we’ve been friends for years.
“She said watch out for Paul Hollywood. She told me, funnily enough, exactly what Paul told me.
“She said, ‘Don’t just follow Paul. Don’t stand behind Paul and just agree with him. Just be yourself and go for it’.”
Prue added that Paul had issued similar advice, continuing: “And Paul said the same thing. So there must be a danger there, but I think I’ve overcome it.”
New host Sandi Toksvig confirmed to the 77-year-old that she is just as honest as Mary, gushing: “You hold your own.”
Paul backed up Sandi’s compliments, adding: “You’ve got nothing to worry about!”
Prue later revealed that she has worked in the industry for more than 50 years, but has never enjoyed filming a TV show quite so much.
She said: “I have done an awful lot of telly in my life but I have never ever enjoyed myself as much as this show.
“It is just fun to go to work, you think, ‘Oh good, it’s a Bake Off day’. That’s never happened to me.”
The Great British Bake Off launches on Channel 4 on August 29 at 8pm.
