Tim, 49, revealed the news that Simon is the seventh contestant to be confirmed for Strictly 2017 on this morning’s instalment of the Channel 4 cooking programme.
However, it wasn’t long before he took a cheeky jab at his co-host, joking that, unless he won the BBC dance show, he could get sacked from his presenting job.
“If you don’t win, you’re going to lose your place on this show,” he teased.
Simon seemed to be excited about donning his dancing shoes, revealing that he is doing some filming for Strictly Come Dancing tomorrow before beginning training next month.
Following the announcement, the star gushed about the opportunity to join the line-up, saying: “I’m so excited, terrified and proud to be invited to be a part of Strictly 2017.
“I’ve always been a HUUUUGE fan of the show,” he continued.

However, Simon also admitted that he hasn’t had any previous dance experience, adding: “When I put on my sequins and hit the floor it will genuinely be my very first time dancing ballroom and latin.”
The latest Strictly news means that Simon will join The Saturdays’ Mollie King, 35, EastEnders actor Davood Ghadami, 35, This Morning presenter Ruth Langsford, 47, former Emmerdale star Gemma Atkinson, 32, Reverend Richard Coles, 55, and Holby City’s Joe McFadden, 41, when the series returns next month.
Yesterday, rumours emerged that former X Factor star and JLS singer Aston Merrygold, 29, has signed up for the show.
