Diana: In Her Own Words: CHILLING documentary leaves viewers horrified 'I feel sick'

Channel 4 airing Princess Diana’s private recordings with her speech coach Peter Settelen has caused an enormous amount of backlash, but after watching tonight many people were overcome by the haunting reality of it.

The documentary details Diana’s life from being a young teenager to the day she died, inserting never-before-seen video snippets and voiceovers, which is joined by old public footage.

But while the tapes have already been released in the US and as Channel 4 claims, the content is already readily available in the public record, fans of the People’s Princess were horrified by Diana’s candid conversation about her time in the royal family and her marriage to Prince Charles.

As social media swarmed with comments about the eye-opening film, fans expressed their shock.

“Watching this Princess Diana documentary about her death and it really is chilling,” one person posted, as another said: “Watching Diana: In Her Own Words. Haunting.”

One person admitted they’d found the programme difficult to digest, saying: “Chilling to hear Princess Diana talk about how the royal family treated her, it’s like she knew all along how it’d end #dianainherownwords.”

A second agreed: “Feel sick watching Diana In Her Own Words. How eerie, but she did as much as she could to get the truth out and it SHOULD be broadcast.”

Many fans of the Princess could barely stand to watch the harrowing documentary, as one said: “Never watched anything so heartbreaking as ‘Diana: in her own words’. I have no words.”

“Fascinating and disturbing viewing ‘Diana: In Her Own Words’ almost 20 years since her untimely death,” another person tweeted.

The documentary also saw Diana reveal that she was once left traumatised by her new fiancé at the time, Prince Charles, after he suggested he didn’t know what love was in reference to their relationship.

Diana: In Her Own Words will be available to watch on 4OD after airing tonight.
