Game of Thrones: Is THIS long-lost character the key in defeating the White Walkers?

In episode three of season seven, Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) finally agreed to allow Jon Snow (Kit Haringtin) to mine the dragonglass under Dragonstone, but they still need to figure out how to turn it into weapons.

Now fans of the hit HBO series have come up with a carefully thought out theory that Gendry (Joe Dempsie) will be back this season and his return could play a major part in the development.

Despite not being seen since season three, the bastard son of King Robert Baratheon (Mark Addy) could be the key to arming the living in the huge upcoming battle against the dead.

Gendry is a skilled blacksmith and once worked under Tobho Mott (Andrew Wilde), the greatest blacksmith in King’s Landing who was one of the few armorers who could rework Valyrian steel.

If Gendry picked up these skills, he would be a vital tool in forging weapons out of Valyrian steel and dragonglass which are the only two substances known to be able to kill the White Walkers.

And viewers are simply waiting for him to now arrive back on his boat to Dragonstone as one person wrote: “My bet is Gendry will be the blacksmith who forges legendary weapons out of dragonglass for the coming fight against the white walkers.”

Another said on Twitter: “Gendry! Got a job for you. Skilled blacksmith needed to mine dragonglass to defeat army of the dead. Can you start on Monday? @GameOfThrones.”

A third added: “Gendry’s definitely coming back.. but I hope it’s to forge the dragonglass weapons/valyrian steel #watchingthrones.”

Just last month, the actor Joe Dempsie confirmed that his character Gendry will be returning to screens after he arrived at the Game of Thrones Los Angeles premiere.

Game of Thrones continues on HBO this Sunday in the US and will be simulcast on Sky Atlantic on Monday at 2am. Catch up on seasons one to seven on NOW TV.
