Manchester bombing: Amber Rudd reassures GMB fans that 'critical level will be temporary'

Answering to Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid, the politician explained that raising the UK’s terror threat to critical should not make people worry.

She said: “Increasing it to this level is going to make people nervous. I can understand that and this decision was made independently.

“The last time it was raised it was for five days. I expect this to be temporary. We have the systems in place and we are prepared for this.

“When this operation is complete, I believe we will move back down to severe,” Rudd reassured.

Although host Morgan was keen to praise the police and security services, he noted that it is hard to do that in light of such a monstrosity.

A steely Rudd was keen to reassure the public however, simply telling viewers: “We will protect them.

“We have the systems in place and the police are taking all steps possible. Severe is also a dangerous place to be.

“We have an enemy and we need to combat them, but we need to be aware that they are there,” the Tory MP added.

Earlier in the show, Yvette Cooper faced tough questions from Susanna Reid, noting that there “needs to be more support” for those who may have information about radicalised members of the community.

Anyone with any information should call the concerned relatives’ hotline on 0161 856 9400. The national anti-terrorist hotline is 0800 789 321.
