Babs' Samantha Spiro shocks as she 'CONFIRMS' she's the new Doctor Who

Tim, 49, and his co-presenter Simon Rimmer, 54, were joined by the star’s of BBC‘s new biopic Babs, Jaime Winstone, 32, and Samantha Spiro, 48.

During their interview, when the actresses discussed their respective roles playing a younger and older Barabara Windsor, Tim asked Samantha what projects she had coming up.

After she explained that she was returning to the theatre to do a new play, The Country Girls, Tim chipped in, joking: “And also you’re the new Doctor Who!”

“And of course I’m the new Doctor Who,” Samantha laughed. “I forgot about that!”

Fans of the hit BBC fantasy series are eagerly speculating as to who will replace star Peter Capaldi after he announced that the current season would be his last.

The Game of Thrones star sparked rumours that she would be taking over as the first female Doctor earlier this week, when she let slip that she had filmed an appearance in the current series, telling BBC Breakfast: “I can’t say how, I can’t say who, I can’t say where.”

Elsewhere on Sunday Brunch, Jaime had the hosts in fits of anxiety as she helped Simon cook up a tasty dish

Tim and Simon weren’t the only ones worried for her welfare as she precariously chopped vegetables.

Viewers of the Channel 4 favourite took to Twitter during the nail-biting segment to share their horror, with one saying: “It’s not just in the studio people are holding their breath with her knife skills!”

“Watching someone awkwardly chop sweet potatoes with genuine fear in my heart,” a second added.

Another couldn’t help but comment on Tim’s terrified face, tweeting: “I did like the will she cut her finger/won’t she tension for Lovejoy.”

Babs airs tonight at 8pm on BBC One.
