Melania Trump, formerly Melania Knauss, 46, met her husband at a Fashion Week party in New York City in September 1998.
However, she was not the young lady that the future president attended the bash with.
In fact, Donald Trump, then 52, had turned up to the party with Celina Midelfart, who was 26.
However, it was 28-year-old Melania who caught his eye.
Celina, the blonde on the tycoon’s arm, is the daughter of a successful Norwegian businessman, Finn-Erik Midelfart.
Her father ran Midelfart AS, a company started by his father and sold to Proctor & Gamble and Midsona AB.
These are seemingly good credentials for the girlfriend of a business tycoon, but unfortunately for Celina, Donald was smitten with Melania almost immediately.
“I saw Melania and I said, ‘Who is that?’”, he told People Magazine.
“She was a very successful model. She was terrific. I tried to get her number and she wouldn’t give it to me.”
Melania insisted on taking Trump’s number, instead of giving him her own. The two went on a date and the rest is US history.
However, things didn’t turn out all too badly for Celina.
The Norwegian, now 44-years-old, lives in Chelsea, London, with her business magnate husband Tor Olav Trøim.
In 2011 she gave birth to their first child.
The pair enjoy a lavish life, with friends in high places. They attended the wedding of Princess Madeleine of Sweden and Christopher O’Neill hosted by King Carl Gustaf XIV and Queen Silvia at the Royal Place in Stockholm in 2013.
While Donald Trump is known for his loud, straight-talking persona, Melania, 45, seems to take a backseat in public life.
