Following Theresa May’s announcement that she has called for a snap general election, the Liberal Democrat leader was scheduled to appear on the ITV show as his parliamentary campaign kicks off in full swing.
However, after the Westmorland and Lonsdale MP swerved questions over his stance on homosexuality, he’s been branded a “disgrace” by voters and Piers Morgan suggested the controversy was behind his last minute cancellation.
“If he’s declined to comment then it suggests that he thinks homosexuality is a sin,” fumed Morgan, 54. “He was supposed to appear on this show today, he claimed he pulled out over ‘scheduling issues’, I think he pulled out over questioning issues.
“Come on Mr. Farron, you’re a good guy, we like you, you’ve got to come clean about this. I don’t think you can keep saying being gay is a sin.”
Morgan and his co-host Susanna Reid also grilled Vince Cable, who is hoping to run for Parliament again as a Lib Dem candidate, over Farron’s comments – or lack of.
Reid chimed: “Farron won’t say homosexuality is not a sin.”
Her fiery partner in crime chipped in: “If Theresa May says homosexuality is a sin she would have to resign.”
