‘He’s not making it up!’ Eamonn Holmes slaps down Ruth over Boris coronavirus diagnosis

Earlier today, Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced he has developed mild symptoms of coronavirus. This Morning broke the news to their viewers and Ruth Langsford wanted to know whether or not he had self-diagnosed or had an official test with a positive result. This seemed to irk her husband Eamonn Holmes who was presenting alongside her and he shut down the suggestion the man in Number 10 was “making it up”.

“Most people are self-diagnosing, do we know, has he officially been tested?” Langsford added but Holmes butted in: “He has been.”

“Yes he has, he was tested on the personal advice of the Chief Medical Officer, so we do know he has definitely got this, he has been tested,” the political reporter clarified.

“He’s not making it up for anything,” Holmes jibed.

“No I don’t think he is making it up, but he looks fairly well at the moment and most people can’t get that test,” Langford defended.

Camilla Tominey video-called into the show to offer her thoughts on the news.

She told the hosts: “I’ve just spoken to Downing Street and they have confirmed he is only suffering mild symptoms and is in self-isolation now, living in Number 11.

“He has taken over the Chancellors offices downstairs, so he is separate from Number Ten and has converted all his work to video conferencing – he cannot be in direct contact with anyone,” she added.

Tominey then explained how Johnson is not the first politician or high-profiled person to get coronavirus and mentioned Prince Charles and Prince Albert II of Monaco – both of who have been tested positive for COVID-19.

It comes after Johnson took to his official Twitter account and the caption which accompanied a video read: “Over the last 24 hours I have developed mild symptoms and tested positive for coronavirus.

“I am now self-isolating but will continue to lead the government’s response via video-conferencing as we fight this virus.

“Together we will beat this. #StayHomeSaveLives.”

While self-isolating, Johnson will still be in charge of the government’s handling of the coronavirus crisis.

Earlier this week, the Prime Minister’s spokesman said if Johnson was too unwell and unable to work, Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab, as the first secretary of state, would be the selected minister to stand-in.

Fans flocked to This Morning tweet to wish the Prime Minister well.

One said: “@thismorning @BorisJohnson wish you a speedy recovery. We our country needs you.”
