The Big Bang Theory: ‘You’d never see anyone like Sheldon’ Director spills casting secrets

The Big Bang Theory ended a few months ago after fans spent the past twelve years getting to know the unique cast.

Sheldon Cooper (played by Jim Parsons) was one of the most unique characters of the series, but it was the heartwarming bond between the unlikely couple that intrigued fans.

Fans watched in amusement as Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki) fumbled his words when trying to speak to Penny Hofstadter (Kaley Cuoco) in the early seasons, but director Mark Cendrowski has revealed this may be what made the series so successful.

Speaking to TV Insider Mark revealed it was the unique cast and characters that made the show.

The director revealed: “When this show started, these were very unique characters. You’d certainly never seen anyone like Sheldon.

“There’d not been — call them nerds if you want — a show based around these brilliant minds and what they did with comic books.”

However, despite the niche interest of the characters, fans still seemed to find the characters extremely relatable, especially the issues Apartment 4A seemed to have when talking to the opposite sex.

Mark added: “But early on, I could tell when I started talking to people, once the show was on the air, people that were not comic book people, that were maybe a little older, were not nerdy, were not video game players — they still related to these characters. It appealed to everybody.

“You didn’t have to be a nerd or anything specific to have trouble as a guy talking to a girl.

“What Leonard goes through with Penny in the beginning is common for every guy, in one way or another.

“The same thing with every girl and having to deal with males in that way and being asked out and having to deal with dating situations.

“That’s when I knew we really had something special with this cast.”

As well as the show’s “special cast” the sit-com also became popular for it’s numerous famous cameos.

Numerous big names in science made cameos in the show, such as Buzz Aldrin in Howard’s (Simon Helberg) visits to space and the late Stephen Hawking.

However, Penny actress Kaley Cuoco recently revealed who she would like to have seen appear on the CBS hit.

It seems the Penny Hofstadter star is quite the sit-com fan as she revealed she is “obsessed” with Friends star Jennifer Aniston.

In conversation with AOL Entertainment, Kaley revealed her cameo of choice: “Probably Jennifer Aniston.

“I love her so much, she’s also my style icon. I’m obsessed with her, because she’s always so effortless and cool.

“I don’t want to say that it looks like she doesn’t try, because she obviously tries, but she just looks like the coolest chick around.”

The Big Bang Theory season 12 is available on CBS and All4.
