Danai has played Michonne since the third season of the AMC series but season 10 will be her last.
Her exit from The Walking Dead was announced earlier this year although details of the character’s departure have been kept tightly under wraps.
However, Danai has lifted the lid on some of the details surrounding it.
The actor has revealed that she had some input into how her exit would play out.
She told the Los Angeles Times: “I know nothing. But what I will say in my know-nothingness, the great thing about this show is they are very, very, fantastic at creating great structure for everyone’s story.”
“I was in a room where they have all the pictures of people who have left the show, and everyone’s exit has been so specific and really resonate in its own, very original way. And so there was no exception to that in my case, I’m very thankful for that.
“And I was allowed to be a collaborator. But they created a very, very, very sound structure of how Michonne exits, which I was very thankful for.”
But viewers will have to wait and see how Michonne leaves the show in the upcoming series.
The Walking Dead chief content officer Scott Gimple has hinted that it won’t be the last that viewers see of Michonne.
Although Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) left the programme during the last series, his fate was left open.

He is set to feature in a trilogy of The Walking Dead films that will be released in cinemas.
Scott said of Danai: “She has some amazing things ahead of her and we’re not completely done with her, I’ll say that.
“We’re not completely done with anyone who comes and goes on the show. But she has some amazing things ahead.”
Could Michonne reunite with Rick in the film franchise?
The main series already has one spin-off show in Fear the Walking Dead but another one it set to be released next year.
The as-of-yet untitled spin-off is reportedly scheduled to be released in spring 2020.
It will focus on a younger main cast as AMC have previously teased: “[The series will] focus on the first generation to come-of-age in the apocalypse as we know it.
“Some will become heroes. Some will become villains. In the end, all of them will be changed forever.
“Grown-up and cemented in their identities, both good and bad.”
The Walking Dead returns October 7 on FOX in the UK.
