BBC News: ‘Biased’ BBC reporting of Boris Johnson leaves viewers FURIOUS ‘I’m sick of it’

The news was announced yesterday that Boris Johnson had won the leadership challenge against fellow Conservative MP Jeremy Hunt.

After speaking to the Queen, Johnson will be sworn in to his new service and then will officially become the leader of the United Kingdom today.

During today’s edition of BBC Breakfast, presenters Dan Walker and Louise Minchin did their utmost to host a fair discussion about the election, but viewers were unhappy with the choice to welcome three non-supporters from the government in a row.

Liberal Democrats MP Chuka Umunna, Stuart Hosie from the SNP, and Shadow Trade Secretary Barry Gardiner all gave their views on the news on the BBC programme.

Feeling the decision was biased against the new Prime Minister, viewers flocked to Twitter to share their complaints.

One person wrote: “Now I’m not a big fan of Boris but FFS #BBCBreakfast is it slag Boris off day. He hasn’t yet seen HM. Your political editor needs the sack. Biased or what?”

“Is this a balanced interview @bbcbreakfast? Three guests that obviously do not like our new Prime Minister. I’m finding hard to defend the BBC here #bbcbreakfast,” another slammed.

A third agreed: “#bbcnews #skynews #gmb All parading Remoaners slagging off Boris & Trump they couldn’t be more bias to remain if they tried. Oh god now BarryGardiner on BBC.”

While a fourth said: “Wow @Kevin_Maguire doesn’t like #boris who’d have thought it? #bbcbreakfast.”

“We all know how much #bbc and #bbcbreakfast don’t like Boris or Brexit,” a fifth claimed. “But imagine if they at least offered a bit of balance rather than the constant barrage of doom and gloom. What a difference it would make.”

A sixth added: “Oh for goodness sake #bbcbreakfast this is going too far! Engineered blatantly to give an ‘anti’ message. They are not even trying to hide it now. Disgraceful.”

Others commented on the programme’s later decision to host pro-Johnson guests.

“Andrew Pierce chief tory cheerleader loves Johnson.. who knew. #bbcbreakfast,” one person noted.

Another posted: “I guess Blair, Major et al were unavailable as they would be interviewed. #bbcnews.”

“Well it’s a deeply depressing and worrying day for the country,” Chukka said. “I mean seeing the leadership contest yesterday he looked like an overexcited public school boy who just discovered the keys to the tuck shop. For him it’s a big game.

“It’s all about him, but actually the really serious thing is what’s going to happen to our economy as a result of the policy course he’s intent on pursuing.

“We’ve had a raft of data just in the last few days showing that pursuing a no-deal Brexit is going to tip our economy into recession,” the politician continued. “And that’s at a time that we have over 14 million people in our country living in poverty, wages aren’t going to get back up to pre-crisis levels until 2023 at least with big inequalities.

“And he’s going to add further upset and angst and stress by pursuing this course, which every sane person will tell you, is going to have a hugely detrimental effect on people’s jobs and livelihoods.”

Sharing he agreed with “most of” Chuka’s comments, Stuart went on: “I think SNPs’ approach to this can be characterised by saying we have profound concerns.

Sharing he agreed with “most of” Chuka’s comments, Stuart went on: “I think SNPs’ approach to this can be characterised by saying we have profound concerns.

“Not just because of his willingness to embark upon a reckless no-deal Brexit – which every single assessment I’ve ever seen and there are dozens – tell us will be economically damaging.

“But because of the way he makes things up. Look at the way he did the ridiculous stunt last week with the kipper. The point he was making wasn’t true.”

“He’s the poor man’s Donald Trump, when actually he’s probably one of the richest and most out-of-touch PMs we’ll ever have,” Barry later said. “The extraordinary thing is that he’s coming in with a pledge not to sort out the problems in our schools in terms of the funding crisis there, not to sort out the social crisis, not to sort out the policing but actually, to give a hand out to the richest people in our country of £3,000.

“This is not reality. This is someone who wants to come in as one of the wealthiest PMs we’ll have seen in this century and last, and he’s going to make the priority giving the hand-out to the rich. I just don’t see how this resonates with the British public,” the guest added.

The BBC programme later rectified a string of anti-Johnson guests by interviewing Iain Duncan Smith from the Conservative party, who said that the new Prime Minister is very different to the current perception of him.

“The real point is that the man I know, Boris Johnson, is a deeply liberal individual who believes deeply in tolerance,” he explained via video link. “And also most importantly, in the rights to free speech and reaction given constraints. And what he will want to do is impose that sense of deep liberalism on the country, but I think he’ll enthuse and lift the country at the same time.

“And goodness gracious, I don’t know about you, but I am fed up with the last two and a half – three years of the miserable downbeat view of too many politicians in Britain. It’s time to lift us again and say look Britain is great. We will do very well no matter the circumstances, because the people are what make it great not the politicians,” the MP added.

BBC Breakfast continues weekdays at 6am on BBC One.
