The poignant 30-second clip of the brand new series of Poldark began with some wonderful words of encouragement from a mystery voice for the brooding protagonist Ross Poldark (played by Aidan Turner).
Ross appeared to be mulling something serious over in his mind, but who could it involve?
“You will make the world a stronger, fairer, wiser place,” the voiceover told him.
What’s more fiery red-head Demelza (Eleanor Tomlinson) seems determined to build Cornwall into a better place as she delivered a rousing speech to her counterparts on the BBC programme.
“Our children would have the means to rise, the mother-of-two said firmly. “And claim parity with their richer fellows.”
But despite these bold statements, it seems the duo are in for another rocky road on the historical drama.
Ross could then be heard saying: “If your own country betrays you, to whom do you then owe loyalty?”
And the drama only intensified, as in a series of flashes both the Poldarks and the Enyses seemed to be struggling to keep their lives from falling apart.
In one of the final shots, Ross emerged from a cave carrying the lifeless body of a child, and it came shortly after an enormous explosion.
It’s unclear whether the two events are connected, and the child identity is unknown at this moment in time, but will one fan-favourite character be left devastated with loss?
What’s more, George Warleggan (Jack Farthing) looks set to go further and further into his depression as he can be seen holding a gun to someone’s head.
Taking to the Twitter comments, fans were giddy with enthusiasm over the new teaser, which was released by the official Poldark account.
“Anyone else have a lump in their throat?” one person asked. “I think mine won’t be going away anytime soon. It looks so wonderful!! I can’t believe it’s the last series. @PoldarkTV #Poldark #AidanCrew.”
Another demanded: “All I know is Ross and Demelza better end up happy together after all this turbulent drama.”
“I want to see it NOW but I do not want it to end forever. Duality of feelings. How will we do without Poldark ???” a third wondered.
While a fourth cried: “You’re killing me @PoldarkTV can’t believe this is the last ever series btw it looks brilliant!”
“I haven’t felt this excited in a long time…and yet I know come the end of the series, I will be inconsolable,” a fifth shared.
Others speculated on what other tidbits the video has hinted at for the next several episodes.
“Is that Demelza running in the dark not long after the explosion? I think it’s her..” one person guessed.
Another wondered: “Is Ross carrying Valentine out of a cave???”
Recently, actor Aidan Turner spoke out about whether he would return to the series years in the future to finish off Winston Graham’s books.
Poldark season five returns to BBC One this month.
