Sir Bruce Forsyth’s daughter admits it's been a ‘rough year’ for her 'amazing' father

Appearing on today’s edition of This Morning, Debbie Matthews told hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield about her father’s current situation.

When asked how the 89-year-old veteran entertainer was feeling, Debbie said: “He’s good, he’s watching. It’s been a rough year and he’s been fantastic. He’s just been amazing. He’s a wonderful father, we’re very proud of him.”

Debbie was on the programme to talk about tightening up dog theft legislation after her own pets were stolen in 2006.

Debbie’s interview comes not long after it was announced that Sir Bruce Forsyth was doing well after five days in intensive care in hospital after developing a serious chest infection.

The father-of-six has now returned home in Surrey and is being cared for by his devoted wife Lady Wilnelia, 59, as his other daughter Julie Forsyth updated fans about his condition.

“I have been to see him and he’s doing great,” Julie said in a recent interview.

“He is getting over a chest infection so it’s a bit difficult, but he’s doing good.”

She told The Sunday People that all of his children sat by his side while he was in hospital, explaining: “We were all up there. All the girls railed round and his son.”

Sir Bruce has had several illnesses and problems in recent years, in 2015, he underwent keyhole surgery to remove two life threatening aneurysms.

Lady Wilnelia also appeared on This Morning last year and revealed that he had another fall since his operation after undergoing keyhole surgery.

Speaking about the long recuperation process after undergoing keyhole surgery, Phillip, 54, commented that Sir Bruce had had another fall, saying: “He was in hospital a long time, then got home and had another fall which is just a setback,” to which Wilnelia added: “Yes, a setback.”

Doctors found two aneurysms when they gave Bruce Forsyth a full body scan following his first fall in October 2016.

This Morning airs weekdays on ITV at 10am.
