The Nightly Show: Davina McCall makes AWKWARD gaffe as she 'oversells' Boy George’s career

The 49-year-old – who has quit Twitter so she doesn’t receive any predicted backlash online – was joined by Boy George on the entertainment programme.

But when she introduced the lead singer of Grammy and BRIT Award-winning pop band Culture Club, she made a very awkward blunder.

Davina said: “Let’s us introduce my first guest and I could not be more excited. He is a genuine music icon selling over 400 – oh sorry I oversold that.”

The audience erupted into laughter as the former Big Brother host correct herself, “It’s a 100”.

She then began the phrase again and went on to say it correctly this time: “He is a genuine music icon selling over 100 million singles and 50 million albums that have been the soundtrack to so many off our lives. Let’s give it up for Boy George.”

One social media fan immediately noticed the gaffe and wrote on Twitter: “Incorrectly introducing Boy George. Goodness me Davina. How embarrassing #TheNightlyShow.”

The show has been heavily criticised since it debuted two weeks ago, with previous hosts John Bishop and David Walliams slammed by viewers.

But Davina seemed to get more positive response online than the former hosts.

One person wrote: “Davina for permanent host of the nightly show #thenightlyshow.”

“Brilliant show tonight, really enjoyed it, love the love and energy between you all!!” Commented another.

However, there were still some negative feedback: “What a load of c**p bring news back at 10pm.”

Another wrote: “I like our Davina. But nobody is turning around the public perception on this dross. #TheNightlyShow.”

The Nightly Show continues tomorrow night at 10pm on ITV.
