Game of Thrones season 8 spoilers: Star speaks out on who he REALLY wants on the throne

Game of Thrones will be over in a matter of months and viewers are struggling to decide who will claim the Iron Throne in the final episode.

With many viable candidates on the table, it is certainly a tough call when the future of Westeros is at stake.

Many viewers have begun claiming a number of unlikely characters could take the throne in its dramatic crescendo, and some of the show’s stars agree with them.

Viewers will remember Dickon Tarly from season seven, who was played by The Umbrella Academy star Tom Hopper.

Dickon suffered an incredibly gruesome death at the hands of Deanerys Targaryen (played by Emilia Clarke) in the Battle of the Goldroad whilst she was riding Drogon.

Obviously Dickon is no longer viable for the throne considering he was burnt to a cinder – but his actor believes Samwell Tarly (John Bradley) is the best fit for the throne.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, Tom spoke about who he would want on the throne, exclaiming: “I would say Sam!”

He went on to explain: “Sam would be the most interesting one to see on the throne.”

Tom also went on to reveal his friendship with Samwell actor John, adding: “Also: I love John as well.

“John is a very good friend of mine – which is hilarious because we knew each other before I got the gig.

“And then I was like: ‘Mate! I’m playing your brother!’ But then we never got to work together.”

“So yeah,” he grinned. “I’d like to see him on the throne.”

Sam could certainly take the throne at the last minute, as he has helped Jon Snow (Kit Harington) throughout his journey as his right-hand man.

Fans will remember Sam was the person who discovered the importance of dragon glass, and has since been working to stave off the White Walkers.

Could his experience in defending Westeros somehow land him the much-coveted Iron Throne?

It was recently revealed Game of Thrones creator George RR Martin was supposed to have a cameo in the show’s final season.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, George explained: “David and Dan invited me to a cameo in one of the final episodes, which I was tempted to do.

“But I didn’t think just for the sake of a cameo I could take the time to return to Belfast.”

This cameo would follow that of Ed Sheeran’s last season, which saw him singing alongside Arya Stark (Maisie Williams).

Game of Thrones season 8 returns April 14 on HBO in the US, and the next day on Sky Atlantic in the UK.
