Phillip Schofield grills Paul Burrell and reveals This Morning fee in AWKWARD interview

In a world exclusive interview, Princess Diana’s former butler, 58, was grilled by hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield over his upcoming wedding and decision to reveal all about his private life.

During the This Morning interview Paul expressed his fears about the security at the wedding because details had been published in the public domain.

“The one thing that’s worrying me about getting married in a few weeks’ time is the security of it. I have to control that as well,” he said.

His comments led Phillip, 56, to hit back: “Security wouldn’t be that expensive, we’ve paid you for this interview.”

Paul suggested that the cost of security at the ceremony would be in the region of £20,000 to £30,000 and again the presenter responded: “Nearly what we paid you. We bought you security. You don’t need to do the magazine deal, we’ve paid for your security.”

He was also quizzed about how he felt that his personal life was now in the public sphere after he spilled secrets about the Royal Family and Princess Diana.

“Does that make you question what you did with Diana’s stories?” Holly asked him.

“I felt I was doing the right thing at the right time. This is the woman I knew and the woman I loved. I was stuck between a rock and hard place, I could never really win and I can’t win this one either. The genie is out of the bottle,” he explained.

Paul said that although it was not “explicitly” said, he believed that both the Queen and Princess Diana knew about his sexuality, saying that he was “good at flower arranging” and “what to wear with what”.

News of Paul’s sexuality and his wedding to his boyfriend Graham, 58, broke last week, just nine months after the father-of-two divorced his wife of 32 years.

Reflecting on how the news came out, Paul said: “I feel like I’ve been run over by a bus. I never expected this story to come out so quickly so soon.

“My partner was doorstepped by a red top. They said, ‘we’ve got this story, we’re going to print it’. He shut the door and didn’t know what to do.”

The former servant of the British Royal Household has been with his partner for 10 years and the pair live together.

This Morning airs weekdays on ITV at 10.30am.
