There was already considerable excitement at a report an advert being filmed at Disney World for airing on Christmas Day had included a hint about the Episode IX trailer. Much as many fans would be thrilled, it is perhaps unlikely that family-friendly Disney would hijack Christmas Day for a marketing push. Beside, now all the signs are pointing to a full week before that. Will we really get our first look at the Last Jedi sequel next Wednesday, December 19?
Collider has already confidently announced that Disney is preparing to unleash the fiirst trailers for Spider-Man Far From Home and Star Wars Episode 9 in December.
The recent CCXP in Brazil came and went without the expected Spidey sneak peak wide release. A trailer was shown in the hall but not online.
This means Disney has a tricky juggling act trying to prioritise all its December plans.
Not only does it have two huge trailers to position, the parent studio of Marvel and Lucasfilm will also want to leave plenty of room for Mary Poppins Returns to shine in the spotlight, with no distractions.
However, there is also a major Star wars date in December, with the release of the final issue of Star Wars: Darth Vader: Dark Lord of the Sith.
Issue 25 of the popular comicbook series, which has been filled with hints and teasers for the current big screen trilogy, will hit shelves on December 19.
It would make perfect sense for a Star Wars double hit that day.
Mary Poppins previews star that evening in the US before the film gets a wide release across America, followed by the UK on December 21.
Either the Star Wars 9 teaser drops before Mary Poppins of fans will likely have to wait at least a week after that. And that still leaves Spider-Man Far From Home in need of a slot.
With any luck, fans will get their first look at the grand finale to the Skywalker saga in just a few days…
