Bohemian Rhapsody: How Brian May reacted to the actor playing him – and what he CHANGED

Lee plays the iconic musician in the Queen biopic, which also features Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury. The film has been a huge box office success despite middling reviews, and May himself has spoken out about how much he loves the end product.

Speaking on The View earlier this month, Lee revealed that May was “in awe” when he came face-to-face with the actor as his younger self – but he did have a small change he wanted to make.

“It was quite a surreal moment,” Lee recalled.

“He knocked on my trailer door and it was the first time he’d seen me in the full get up, the full wig.

“And it was seeing a younger version of himself, going into this strange time warp.

“He looked at me with this sense of awe that lasted for about three minutes.

“Then he came up to me and started adjusting the wig, saying ‘the fringe was a little bit longer’!”

May has previously spoken about how much he loves Lee’s performance – and Malek’s.

“[Malek’s] incredible… without doubt he’ll be on the nominations list for an Oscar and well deserved as well,” he told Press Association.

“He inhabited Freddie to the point where we even started to think of him as Freddie. Really remarkable.”

He added: “Everybody gave 200%, from the actors and technicians to the production team and hair and make up, everyone.

“You don’t get any lukewarm responses. The guy who plays me should be getting awards all over.”

Malek will next be seen in the prison drama Papillon – watch an exclusive clip here.
