Pokemon can be acquired by finding eggs at random from PokeStops and hatching them.
Pokemon Go players can collect up to nine eggs at any time, and they will hatch after you walk a certain distance.
You cannot know for certain which Pokemon resides inside the Egg, other than by narrowing it down to the four large Egg groups – 2km, 5km, 7km and 10km.
Generation 4 Pokemon are being rolled out in waves, and these are the only confirmed creatures at the time of writing:
How do I hatch an egg?
Begin by touching the Main Menu in Map View.
At the top of the screen, touch the word Eggs.
Then select an egg.
Select Start Incubation.
Select an incubator to use on your egg.
Then walk the distance required to hatch the egg.
Each egg displays the number of kilometres you must walk for the egg to hatch.
Generally speaking, the more kilometres needed, the rarer the resulting Pokemon.
A notification will appear when the egg is hatched.
The incubator can only hold one egg at a time.
The game’s developer Niantic allows players to buy additional incubators to simultaneously incubate and hatch multiple eggs.
How do I hatch Pokemon eggs quickly?
Turning your phone’s augmented reality off is an easy way to save time and effort in the hunt.
Exchanging friend codes with fellow players allows you to receive gifts for exclusive 7km eggs as well as letting you trade Pokemon.
You can use field research to get access to some of the game’s rarest Pokemon – a week’s work should help you to unlock that month’s Research Breakthrough.
You can tap into community knowledge about spawn locations via the Silph Road community maintained atlas, which keeps track of nests.
Lucky Eggs are an item that doubles the amount of XP you earn throughout the game and the 2018 version offers more options for how you can earn XP.
Curve balls can almost double your catch chances – simply spinning the Poke Ball before you throw it at your target will earn you a x1.7 bonus.
Berries are another useful feature – Razz Berries increase your catch chances by x1.5, Golden Razz Berries increase this chance even more, and Pinap Berries double the amount of candies you get from catching a Pokemon.
