Poldark Season 5 spoilers: Series to return WITHOUT Aidan Turner? Writer speaks out

Season four of Poldark is set to wrap up later this week and the final episode will see Ross (played by Aidan Turner) try and mend things with wife Demelza (Eleanor Tomlinson).

Elizabeth Chenoweth (Heida Reed) is also attempting to repair her own marriage as she will persuade George (Jack Farthing) that Valentine really is his child.

Whilst the BBC has already confirmed a fifth season for Poldark, writer Debbie Horsefield has spoken out about working on it and the future of the series.

She revealed she has already started writing the next scenes to follow on from season four.

“Yes I have started writing it,” she began, “I’m writing episode 7. [But] it is the final series as far as we are concerned.”

Although some fans will be saddened to know Poldark won’t be returning to the screen after season five, it may not be the definite end for the period drama.

The series is based on The Poldark novels by Winston Graham, and there are several more books which could inspire Debbie to reignite the storyline after season five.

But would they continue the series without lead actor Aidan Turner?

It’s not likely as Debbie revealed she would have to speak to the cast before continuing to pen the series.

She explained: “There are five more books, [but] the BBC the cast would need to talk about that, there are more books definitely. “

Debbie went on to add that she’d love to write more seasons, explaining: “Yes, I would be happy to do them.

“[But] i’ve got lots of things lined up at the moment, and so have the cast.”

It seems fans will have to wait a while for the sixth season but in the meantime, details for season five are slowly being confirmed.

Ross will return to his home in Cornwall, confirming the location for the next series.

Cornwall Live’s website reported The National Trust have applied for planning permission for a temporary set to be put in place.

The application read: “The temporary structures will be in place for less than six weeks, for the duration of filming of the Poldark series.”

Meanwhile, speaking about the pressure to continue to pen compelling stories for television, Debbie added: ““I don’t think I’m unusual in this, I know a lot of people I work with say the same thing.

“You always think this is the one when you’re going to be discovered that you can’t do it. Everything else was a fluke.

“Yes there is always somewhere in the back of your mind, when something first comes to the screen that’s the time when you go ‘obviously I’m rubbish and now everyone will realise it.’

“For a long time you’re typing away, then you’re on set and it’s being filmed and you’re watching the rushes and it’s just a small group of creatives all getting together.

“Then comes the time when you have to push your baby out into the world to get shot down and that’s the terrifying moment.”

Poldark returns for the season 4 finale on Sunday 29th July at 9pm on BBC One.
