An Aston Martin DB4GT Zagato has been sold at auction for a record £10 million.
The classic car was auctioned off at Goodwood Festival of Speed, an annual motoring event for car enthusiasts in the UK.
It was purchased by an anonymous European bidder for the record amount.
The ex-Essex Racing Stable, 1961 Aston Martin “MP209” DB4GT Zagato with the registration ‘2VEV’ is a stunning classic car.
It is a two-seater coupe which has more power and greater talk than a Ferrari 250 GTO – 310 bhp and 217 lb/ft of torque.
A world record was also set for the most valuable BMW ever sold at auction at Bonhams’ 50th auction at the estate, confirmed the auction house.
The car that was sold was a 1957 BMW 507 Roadster, which is a car previously owned by British racing driver John Surtees, fetching a whopping £3,809,500.
James Knight, Bonhams motoring chairman and the auctioneer for the sale, said: “We are simply blown away by today’s results.”
He added: “The world records that we set today are indicative of the continued market desire for the historically significant motor cars with impeccable provenance such as ‘2 VEV’ and the John Surtees BMW 507.”
The auction house took a total of £32 million from classic car sales at Goodwood
Other highlights included a 1965 Aston Marion DB5, which was used in James Bond film Goldeneye, selling for £1.9 million.
A 2012 Bugatti Veyron Super Sport Coupe also sold for £2 million.
